Recent paintings focus upon favourite locations, developed from photographs, sketches and notes taken in North and West Cornwall along the rollercoaster coastal path – particularly the Camel Estuary, Harlyn Bay, Fistral and the Newquay coastline, the Lizard, Porthcurno and other special spots. Colour and light are again central themes, coupled with a particular interest in landscape structure and texture. The interface between sea and land, land and sky is the focal point. Permanence and change is described most keenly when observing this interface – an ancient majesty sculpted by the elements in constant movement. Often silhouetted solitary figures contemplate the scene against a dramatic skyscape.
