Coast to Coast walk Completing both a personal and artistic challenge, Jen
has recently walked Wainwright’s famous ‘Coast
to Coast’ route - a 190 mile journey over two weeks from
St. Bees, in Cumbria, to Robin Hood’s Bay, in North Yorkshire.
Upon her return, Jen worked
from sketches, notes and photographs to produce a stunning
series of paintings. The full series of 13 paintings (one image
for each leg of the journey) is available to buy online in
the print shop.
Jen’s paintings and photographs chart
her sheer delight in this beautiful cross section, travelling
from west to east, coast to coast. She revels in the colours
and the contours, the changing effects of light upon the landscape.
She captures something of the experience also - look closely
and there is always a shadow or suggestion of people along
the way. These characters are sometimes herself and her husband
John, or alternatively other walkers - as they cross golden
fields or stagger up to the infamous Black Sail Youth Hostel
for a well deserved rest.
Jen continues her linear
walks this season along new and favourite revisited sections
of the South West Coast Path. She walks and camps along the
way in order to immerse herself in the landscape for as long
as possible, watching the sunrises and the sunsets, truly finding
a sense of place by complete immersion.
Jen is busy planning a
trip to walk and camp along the Hadrian's Wall path this year.
She will return to North and South Devon and The Scilly Isles
for further walking and research, working towards a new series
of paintings.
